Wreaths Across Chattanooga

Today was the annual laying of the wreaths at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Thousand of volunteers from across the area were there this morning to make sure that every one of the 64,000-65,000 fallen service members have a wreath on their headstone for Christmas. Organizations like Wreaths Across America and Wreaths Across Chattanooga help to organize the event and groups like the Boy Scouts of America and volunteers from companies like Travis Close Homes and Real Estate Partners make sure that they all get put in place. We return this June to place American flags at each grave. veterans and family members are interred at Chattanooga National Cemetery, with figures around 64,500 noted in 2023, though older estimates mention over 50,000 burials from the Civil War era onward, including many Civil War soldiers and later service members from all major conflicts, with capacity projected to run out soon. They have already acquired a new piece of land that will be the future area once they are at capacity. We all hate that we have to have more room for more graves but it is the world that we live in. My family has been taking part in this event for 11-12 years now and we would never miss it. It is a great morning out with the kids to show respect to our fallen service members and helps to remind us of the sacrifice that was made for us. Everyone is welcome to volunteer so if you would like to join us next year just let us know. We will have free coffee, Chick Fil A biscuits and Donuts.
